My Tribute to Michelangelo's David

David Sculpted in Clay

Nancy Verderosa

Creating ceramic pottery is more than a hobby for me. It's a passion, and a God-given talent that I have tried to perfect over the years. I have learned a great many lessons in my quest for perfection, and that sometimes even mistakes can be 'happy little accidents'.

You might be wondering who I am, or if you have ever seen any of my work. You very well might have. I have been juried into four St. Pete College Student Art Shows, which resulted in my work being featured in the newly renovated Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, FL on four separate occasions. My other credits include several invitations to the Holiday shows held by The Art Center in St. Petersburg, FL (now known as the Morean Art Center); The Penwomen Illustration Second Place Award; and the Overall Second Place Ribbon in 2000 for The Art of the Millennium Art Show.

I have also taught various Medias of art including watercolor, gouache, charcoal, acrylic painting, pottery, and more. Did I mention that I am proficient with computer graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design? I have worked with Adobe's CS3 to create self-portraits, print ads, and corporate identities.

My Ceramic 'body of work' contains several styles, all handcrafted and/or wheel-thrown. My work is unique and individual; unless commissioned, I rarely make the same vessel twice. Though most of my work is kitchen-safe and functional, I do take pleasure in creating purely aesthetic pieces as well.

In this gallery, I've assembled images of several of my favorite ceramic pieces. I have included some in the greenware stage so that you, the viewer may see works-in-progress. I also enjoy the cool gray tone of the wet clay, and the sheer freshness of a new piece. So come in and view some pottery that utilizes academic methods, experimental techniques, and a little whimsy!

Visit often as I will be adding new images and keeping you up-to-date with the progress of the greenware pieces, and personal notes and commentaries.

If you have an artsy site you wish to link up to, let me know. Maybe we can 'hook up' sometime.
